24/7 Wall Street: This Arizona city is one of the 50 best places to live in America

If you're looking for a great place to live in Arizona, you can't do any better than Goodyear.

That's according to the financial blog 24/7 Wall Street, which ranked the West Valley suburb No. 7 on its newest ranking of America's 50 best cities to live.  

To determine its list, the website reviewed data on the 550 U.S. cities with populations of 65,000 or more as measured by the U.S. Census Bureau. It looked at a range of variables such as crime rates, employment growth, access to restaurants and attractions, educational attainment, and housing affordability.

Some highlights for Goodyear include average household income of roughly $70,000, which is about $20,000 higher than the statewide average. And the Southwest Valley city is pretty light on crime.

"With 132 incidences of violent crime per 100,000 residents annually, the city’s violent crime rate is less than half that of the state a whole," according to 24/7 Wall Street.

Goodyear also boasts a poverty rate below the state average: 12.1 percent vs. 18.2 percent.  The city's median home value is $243,000.

Goodyear was the lone Arizona city on the list, which was topped by Meridian, Idaho, a suburb of Boise.  Goodyear is home to a number of warehouses and fulfillment centers for retailers including Amazon. REI also is building a warehouse in the West Valley city. Goodyear also has seen other economic activity including a new Harkins Theatres under construction, and Valley favorite Oregano's opened a restaurant in the city last year.
