Rumbi's Island Grill, part of a chain in Utah, Idaho, Colorado, and Arizona, has said, "aloha" to its location in the Scottsdale Promenade (next to Subway and Picazzo's Organic Italian Kitchen), and will soon be a second home for Inca's Peruvian Cuisine. The original location of Inca's, in Tucson's Foothills, opened in November of 2009 courtesy of owner Fatima Campos, according to the Arizona Daily Star. At that time, Campos brought in chef Walter Salazar who eventually left and, as of August of this year, opened up his own restaurant, Villa Peru, in Tempe.
Perfect timing given the growing popularity of Peruvian cuisine. Look for an eclectic variety of traditional dishes such as well as desserts, beverages, and cocktails.

House of the Day

Diverse and Inspiring: Laranjeiras Residence in Rio de Janeiro

Laranjeiras Residence 01 750x5001 Diverse and Inspiring: Laranjeiras Residence in Rio de Janeiro
Laranjeiras Residence was designed by Fernanda Marques Arquitetos Associados and is a fascinating 10,225 square foot summer retreat located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. According to the architects, “both for its technical features and for the design freedom it provides, steel was the material of choice for the house structure. Its outward look, however, is covered in wood, a device used to protect it from the sea air and make it more familiar-looking amid the green Mata Atlântica. In order to provide maximum integration between the internal and external areas, large glazed windows were used, allowing virtually every room in the house ample interaction with the landscape. To counterbalance the use of timber, the essential element in the project’s aesthetic arrangement, interior areas were conceived with strong emphasis on the dialogue among materials, either finished or unfinished – oscillating between rustic and high-tech“. Have a look at the photos and tell us what you feel this crib inspires.  See More

Contemporary Tree House in South Africa Showcasing an Impressive Design

Tree House 00 750x562 Contemporary Tree House in South Africa Showcasing an Impressive Design
Van Der Merwe Miszewski Architects have designed the Tree House, a 2,475 square foot, three story contemporary residence located in Cape Town, South Africa. The project concept is based on the fact that the tree is an iconic and precious life element in Africa, providing shelter and shield. Here is more from the architects: “Five tree-like structures anchor the roof to the ground and provide shelter for the functions gathered under. These trees are surrounded by an entirely separate lightweight transparent steel and glass enclosure supported on a heavily rusticated stone base. The design of the house incorporates themes of narrative, of layering and of expressed threshold. The visitor is invited to take part in a journey of discovery, requested to participate in the unlocking of experiences within the house, the unpeeling of layers. We tried to heighten the experience of unveiling and of delicate exposure, to create within the house sensuality and moments of intense intimacy – a folly immersed in, and closely linked with, the majestic beauty of the African landscape – a simultaneous dialogue between inside and outside and outside and inside, neither taking precedent over the other.” Enjoy the design details of this unusual “tree house” and don’t hesitate to share your opinions in the comments section below

For-sale inventories shrink for fourth month in a row

Realtor.com: List prices holding steady or posting gains in two-thirds of markets

Inventories of homes, condos, townhouses and co-ops shrank for the fourth month in a row in August, falling 1.9 percent from July and 19 percent from a year ago, to 2.27 million, according to the latest numbers from Realtor.com.
Among the 146 markets most searched by Realtor.com users, the total number of listings increased from a year ago in only three: Denver, Colo. (+53.8 percent), El Paso, Texas (+6.3 percent) and Hartford, Conn. (+2.2 percent).
Inventories were down by 10 percent or more from a year ago in 118 markets, including declines of nearly 50 percent in Miami, Orlando and Fort Myers.
Shrinking inventories can signal a rise in demand, but may also reflect a slowdown in homes moving through the foreclosure process that restricts the supply of real estate owned (REO) properties.
Areas with high unemployment rates and large numbers of seriously delinquent borrowers could again see inventories swell as lenders put the "robo signing" scandal behind them.

Yum! Restaurant Week is Coming!

Howard Seftel's 10 best meals for Arizona Restaurant Week

It's not often you can have your cake and eat it, too.
But during Arizona Restaurant Week, which runs statewide from Saturday, Sept. 17, through Sunday, Sept. 25, you can also have your foie gras, lamb osso buco and prime-grade beef tenderloin and eat them, as well. And you can do it at cut-rate prices.

In Greater Phoenix, some 140 different restaurants are participating, each offering three-course, fixed price dinners, with several options for each course. The price is also right: either $30 or $40 (plus beverage, tax and tip).
What's the catch? None, really. We're still in the summer doldrums, and the tourist season is six weeks away. The restaurants are hoping to lure you in, and impress you enough to make you return as a regular guest.
After inspecting the menus, I've selected the top 10 options (in alphabetical order), and put together a meal based on culinary interest and value.
Note that reservations fill quickly, so act swiftly. You'll find a complete list of participating restaurants, menus and prices at arizonarestaurantweek.comRead more

House of the Week! $10,800,000.

The Personal Residence of Beaux Arts Architect George Post

Have a nomination for a jaw-dropping listing that would make a mighty fine House of the Day? Get thee to the tipline and send us your suggestions. We'd love to see what you've got.

Location: Bernardsville, N.J.
Price: $10,800,000
The Skinny: A student of Richard Morris Hunt, the architect George Browne Post was a bit of a starchitect in his own right during the latter half of the 19th century. The Civil War veteran—and former civil engineer—was responsible for many precursors to the modern skyscraper. He designed NYC's eight-story Equitable Life Assurance Building, the first building to feature passenger elevators, as well as the New York World Building, a 20-story newspaper headquarters commissioned by Joseph Pulitzer that was, at the time, the tallest building in the city. Therefore, it's not exactly shocking that his country residence in northern New Jersey is an architectural gem in its own right. The striking Neo-Georgian mansion is one of 30 country houses that Post and his firm constructed in Somerset County, and seems to be one of the better preserved. The seven-bedroom, seven-bath columned manse sits on 70 bucolic acres and is currently asking $10.8M.
