In a list where "difficult" is par for the course, Desert Mountain placed five of its six Jack Nicklaus-designed courses on thePhoenix Business Journal’ s Most Challenging Golf Courses list, published today.
The list was ranked by U.S. Golf Association men’s slope rating. According to the USGA, the slope rating is a measurement of the relative difficulty of a course for non-scratch golfers. Slope ratings range from 55 to 155 and are computed from the difference between the course rating and the bogey rating, ratings for scratch golfers and those with a handicap of about 20 (men) and 24 (women).
Desert Mountain’s Chiricahua course carries a 151 slope rating and took the No. 1 spot on the list. Second was the Desert Highlands Golf Club with a 150 rating, and third went to Silverleaf at 149.
