PHOENIX, Ariz. - A national report by S&P/ Case-Shiller says an index of home prices in Phoenix has reached its lowest point since 2006, since the housing bubble burst.
The report measures data from March of this year.
Some analysts say the bottom could still be several months away, predicting prices take another 5 percent hit.
Mike Orr, founder of The Cromford Report, says while he agrees with the data, he believes the Valley has hit bottom and prices are on the upswing.
"February 22 was actually the date when I got the lowest reading. They're starting to move up now, but most people will not notice it because we're only talking about 1 or 2-percent... There's been a huge change in the market- the number of listings available for sale has dropped by nearly 40 percent, people who are trying to buy are finding that they're in a multiple bid situation."

Mortgage rates still in free fall

Borrowers stay on sidelines as fixed-rate loans hit new lows for year

Rates on fixed-rate mortgages declined for a seventh week in a row to new lows for the year amid concerns about weak economic and housing data, Freddie Mac said in releasing the results of its weekly Primary Mortgage Market Survey.
Low rates haven't done much to spur home purchases and there's been no rush to refinance, a separate survey by the Mortgage Bankers Association showed.  Read more.

Phoenix-area "shadow inventory" of homes doing well in market

Foreclosures selling faster here than in other areas

Metro Phoenix has a "shadow inventory" of nearly 100,000 homes, the kind that market watchers sometimes fear could flood the region's long-suffering housing market and drive down prices.
These homes are either in foreclosure or the owners are behind on their mortgage payments, signaling that the houses could eventually join the supply of properties offered by lenders for sale at a deep discount.
But the region is actually in much better shape than other parts of the U.S. hit hard by foreclosures, according to new analysis from a national real-estate group.
